For the 2019 NHL All-Star Game tonight, the world’s best players on ice will be wearing hockey jerseys from the sea. Created in partnership with Parley For The Oceans, the adidas ADIZERO Authentic Pro x Parley jerseys are the first ever to be manufactured from Ocean Plastic™, a range of materials made from upcycled marine plastic debris.
Parley for the Oceans is a global network of creators, thinkers, and leaders of corporations, governments, and environmental groups that have come together to raise awareness for the beauty and fragility of the oceans, and collaborate on projects that can end their destruction. Adidas has been in partnership with Parley For The Oceans since 2015 to help address the major threat of pollution in our oceans from the proliferation of unrecycled plastic floating in the sea. An estimated 8 million metrics tons of plastic trash ends up in our oceans every year.
By spinning a threat into thread, the adidas x Parley partnership gives new purpose to plastic bottles and other plastic waste intercepted in marine environments. As a part of their joint commitments to ending marine plastic pollution through the Parley AIR Strategy (Avoid, Intercept, Redesign), adidas and Parley have reworked marine plastic waste materials into a durable and breathable fabric optimal for adidas performance apparel. First introduced into running shoes, adidas recreated three editions of their UltraBoost shoe. An entire collection of adidas Parley footwear and apparel is now available.
