We featured production designer Stefan Beckman’s home furnishings line, Lateral Objects, when it launched last summer with a collection of bright and graphic beach towels. The collection has since expanded into tableware with placemats, napkins, and glasses, along with additional beach products like camp chairs and tote bags — as well as a shop in the Long Island hamlet of Bellport, NY that carries the whole line and more.
Beckman is arguably fashion’s most sought after production designer, creating the sets and stages for such designers as Louis Vuitton, Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs, Tommy Hilfiger, and Bottega Veneta – in addition to his editorial work for such publications as Vogue Italia, W, Love, and Interview. But when the coronavirus pandemic hit, and so much of the fashion industry on lockdown, like many New Yorkers he left the city for his summer home, and set up shop — literally — in Bellport.
In addition to his own line, the Lateral Objects store features a colorful selection of summer necessities Beckman has curated that perfectly compliment the brand. Beach inspired, they are “fun, affordable, and hopefully put a smile on your face when you walk through the door”, he told Style of Sport.
The shop carries many of our sporty favorites like Hari Mari flip flops, Greenlines board shorts, Izipizi sunglasses, and Drogheria Crivellini espadrilles made from recycled bicycle tires — along with chic beachwear and accessories for men, women, and kids from La Paz, Two New York, Mollusk, 9Seed, Auntie Oti, and more. There are also natural beauty products and sunscreens from Supergoop, Costa Brazil, and Wonder Valley, along with vintage prints and editions from GC/Editions, and other fun summer knick knacks.
Beckman’s plans continue to be flux with the ongoing pandemic, and like many, his summer residence is fast becoming his fall home too. With the extended season, Lateral Objects plans to stay open through the fall, and possibly beyond, with a collection of cozy autumn and festive Holiday products soon to come.
