Tipping the Cap

New Yorkers know what a die-hard sports fan Spike Lee is, a regular and very vocal fixture at Knicks and Yankees games. To honor his support of the Yankees, New Era has just launched “1996 World Series Spike Lee Collection“, which pays tribute to the key moment in the brand’s 90 year history.

In 1996, the famed film director, Spike Lee, approached New Era and asked if a one of a kind red NY Yankees cap could be produced. This was unusual at the time, as New Era only produced caps in official team colors. With an agreement from Yankees owner, the late George Steinbrenner, Spike Lee’s request was granted, and after wearing his unique cap to the 1996 World Series game, the requests flooded in!

To commemorate this milestone, New Era and Spike Lee have created a five-piece capsule collection. Each cap features an embroidered side patch from the 1996 World Series. A red and navy version is available in genuine leather and in 100% wool. Additionally, a white option is available in leather only. All caps come in a special New Era Series box complete with a commemorative booklet.
